Entrepreneur Works

Entrepreneur Works is a non-profit corporation that provides supportive services to entrepreneurs and small business owners to assist them in starting or better incorporating an existing business. With office locations in Philadelphia and Chester, PA, Entrepreneur Works provides a comprehensive array of financial and business development services including: small business and peer loans, business skills workshops and classes, business consulting, and networking. Both internship and volunteer opportunities are available in social media, loan referral outreach and web design.

Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia

Mission:

The mission of the Sustainable Business Network is to build a just, green, and thriving economy in the Greater Philadelphia region. The SBN of Greater Philadelphia accomplishes this by educating and growing a broad base of local, independent businesses and educating policymakers and the public.

Service/Programs Offered:

Initiatives include the Buy Local Philly campaign, the Social Venture Institute, and the Green Stormwater Infrastructure Partners program. Through these and other undertakings, SBN works to connect consumers, independent businesses, and policymakers in making environmentally responsible decisions.

NOTE: Bryn Mawr students have organized Praxis III courses with the SBN in past years. Contact the Civic Engagement Office for more information.

Community Action Development Commission of Montgomery County (CADCOM)

CADCOM provides a range of services and programs including: savings programs, volunteer income tax assistance (VITA), incubator programs for small businesses, food stamp enrollment, and homeless services.  Volunteers have the opportunity to serve in most of these areas.

Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Philadelphia

The mission of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship is to provide programs that inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school, to recognize business opportunities and to plan for successful futures. NFTE is a national organization with a branch in Philadelphia. Volunteers  can get involved with projects that bring financial literacy/entrepreneurial education to middle school and high school students throughout the city.

Women’s Opportunities Resource Center (WORC)

The mission of WORC is to promote social and economic self-sufficiency primarily for economically disadvantaged women and their families. WORC provides entrepreneurial training, individual business assistance, incentive savings programs, and access to business and financial resources. WORC empowers its constituents through various self-help strategies including savings, a self-employment network, and access to its local and national affiliations. Additionally, WORC encourages community awareness and responsiveness concerning issues impacting economic equity and independence. Both internship and volunteer opportunities are available. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed.
